Lamouchi Stands Down After Ivory Coast Ouster

Posted by: Omaku Cephas on June 25, 2014

Sabri Lamouchi is the latest World Cup coach to throw in the towel following Ivory Coasts harsh elimination at the expense of Greece on Tuesday.

Ivory Coast were withing minutes of advancing to the knock-out stages in their third attempt before Giorgios Samaras scored from the penalty spot, after Chieck Tiotte impeded the Celtic striker.

Despite his side finishing third with three points, the French coach insists he has made the right decision to quit following a disappointing campaign in Brazil in the wake of their quarter-final loss to Nigeria at last years Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

Sabri Lamouchi Resigns From His Position as Ivory Coasts Boss.

My contract comes to an end at this World Cup and there will be no epilogue and you can understand well as to why, the former France international said.

It is logical as we did no do well at last years Africa Cup of Nations or at the World Cup finals.

Andreas Samaris pulled Greece ahead few minutes to the break, but Wilfried Bony leveled for The Elephants in the second-half, before Samaras doused silent the Africans in Fortaleza with a killer goal in stoppage time.

Lamouchi says he is disappointed about the loss but bear no grudges with the referee for awarding the late penalty.

I have put a lot of time and effort into the past two years, but unfortunately my story with Cote dIvoire ends this evening, he added.

The outcome is a cruel one but the Greeks did not steal this victory.

I am very disappointed and sad, and also for the players and the Ivorian people. However, my career carries on and there will be other defeats, though I would have liked this adventure to finish in a different fashion..

Wimbledon 2014: Murray Powers Into Third Round

Defending champion Andy Murray made short work of his visit to Wimbledons Court One as he thrashed Slovenian Blaz Rola to reach the third round.

The Briton took advantage of his early start on the second show court to win 6-1 6-1 6-0 in one hour and 24 minutes.

Murray has now won 15 matches in a row at the All England Club.

Andy Murray Beat Blaz Rola to Reach The Third Round of Wimbledon.

“I played well,” the Scot told BBC Sport. “This is the first year he [Rola] has played on grass. He’s just come out of college and broken into the top 100 so it was tough for him without much grass experience but he’ll keep improving because he’s got a good game.

But I took care of my serve throughout the majority of the match and played pretty well. It helps not to have expended too much energy. I felt like that cost me a bit at the French Open – not that I would necessarily have beaten Rafa [in the semi-final] if I’d played perfect – but there were a lot of long matches.

If you can finish matches quickly it definitely helps in the long run. I’m sure Amelie [Mauresmo, his new coach] will be happy. We’ll have a chat, rest up and get ready for the next round.”

The 27-year-old will play Spanish 27th seed Roberto Bautista Agut or Czech Jan Hernych in the last 32 on Friday.

I think we both play a similar game, really go for it and shes one of the kind of players that can get really hot and every time she plays me, she plays really well, so I have to be ready for that, admitted the 33-year-old.

Zabaleta: Its now life or death for Argentina

Posted by: @femi4arsenal on June 26, 2014

Argetina defender Pablo Zabaleta has warned his side that there is no margin for error as they prepare for their World Cup last 16 clash with Switzerland.

The Albiceleste clinched top spot in Group F thanks to a 3-2 win over Nigeria, setting up a date with Ottmar Hitzfelds side in the next round following their 3-0 win over Honduras.

Zabaleta has now warned that their path to the final would only get harder from here after watching a number of sides pull off unexpected results in the tournament so far.

Now we have a match of life or death, because if you make mistakes, it can be your end, he said.

The group matches were hard, against teams that made it tough against us. Of course, we have in mind that we want to keep improving, let’s hope we can manage it.

Its a very even World Cup. Some teams held as favourites have left at the first stage. It hasnt been an easy tournament.

Zabaleta was still pleased that his team had managed to finish first in their group and took the time to praise Nigera, who will also compete in the next round.

It was very important to win all three matches, our confidence is a little higher now. But to finish first was even more important, that was our goal from the start, he added.

Nigeria has really good players, who play well as a team. And thats why they finished second, and we wish them the best.

Meanwhile, midfielder Javier Mascherano downplayed concerns over Argentinas defence after they conceded two goals against the Super Eagles, though he conceded that the best was yet to come from his team.

Honestly, I think both their goals were much more because of their individual quality than our defensive instability, he said.

They didnt have many goal opportunities. They were closer to our goal in the second half, but still no goal situations.

I think we were better than the Iran match. Now we must think about the round of 16 because there are still many more aspects where we could improve our game. {GOAL}

Messi, an Exceptional Player, Says Keshi

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi admits Lionel Messis class is unquantifiable after the stars Man-of-the-Match performance consigned his side to a second-place finish in the group stage of the World Cup.

The Super Eagles progressed to the knockout stage for the first time in 16 years, despite losing their final Group F game 3-2 to Argentina in Porto Alegre.

The Africans were nonetheless never found wanting as CSKA winger Ahmed Musa came up with the response needed for a Messi brace, but the two-time champions topped the group after winning three out of three of their matches, thanks to Marcos Rojos winner.

Super Eagles Celebrate Ahmed Musa Second Goal.

I think there are other players in the Argentina squad who are very strong but Messi if from Jupiter, said the 52-year-old ex-Nigeria international, who became the first African to take an African team to the knockout stage of the World Cup.

The Barcelona forward netted a thunderous opener in the third minutes of kick-off, after arriving on time to meet an Angel Di Maria effort which rebounded the woodwork.

Musa immediately cut La Albiscestes celebration short by curling home a superb effort from the left area from Michael Babatundes pass.

Both strikes came in the first five minutes- the first time in the history of the World Cup that two opposing teams had scored in such succession.

Messi helped Alejandro Sabellas men climb ahead again in first-half stoppage time, moments after drawing an exceptional save from goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama with an exceptional free-kick.

The four-time Fifa Player of the Year struck the deadball so good it evaded the Eagles wall and caught the Lille Metropole shot-stopper flat footed. It was Messis fourth goal in three matches and from thirteen shots on target.

Messi is one heck of a player, Keshi added. You cant take that away from him. Hes blessed.

The African champions cranked up the system upfront early into the second-half and Musa again proved what Messi can do, he can, as well; slotting the ball past goalkeeper Sergio Romero following a one-two combination with Emmanuel Emenike.

Keshi expressed satisfaction with his teams movement up-front in the second period of the encounter in his post match briefing.

He said: We gave too much respect to the Argentines and did not play our game in the first-half. We played a bit more aggressive in the second-half. Congratulations to the Argentina team, I wish them all the best in the tournament.

Elsewhere, Bosnia thrashed Iran 3-1 to ensure there was no late twist to Nigeria runners-up placement. The Africans join Argentina into the last-16.

Argentina are likely to meet either Ecuador or Switzerland, while Nigeria face the winners of Group E in the next round- most likely France.

Sagna: Am not Greedy

Posted by: @femi4arsenal on June 26, 2014

Former Arsenal right back Bacary Sagna has launched an attack to the Arsenal faithful naming him Greedy because of his imminent move to Manchester City. Information Nigeria understands.

The French defender believes hes not joining the Citizens because of financial reasons.

I’m going to clear everything up because I keep reading that I did it for money and I’m greedy,” said Sagna following Frances World Cup draw with Ecuador at the Maracana.

“What I want to say is I stayed with Arsenal with the same contract since 2008 and I never asked for more money.

“For people who think it’s for money, it’s not. I just wanted to change. I needed a boost in my career and I think it was about time.

It was not an easy time because we were still involved in the FA Cup and it was hard to stay focused,” he added.

“I stayed focused on my team because I have a lot of respect for Arsenal.

“I believe Arsenal are a great team. I believe we have great quality and [am happy that] we won a trophy finally. It’s not even about that because Arsenal have quality.

“It’s just that, personally, I wanted a boost. I needed to start from the bottom again.”

Bacary Sagna is on international duty for the France National team at the Fifa World Cup in Brazil, and his country is set to battle Nigeria on Monday in the next round.
